iSight Missions for the Epic Portable Microscope

Miraglo Foundation’s grant to iSight Missions for the Epic Portable Microscope is helping restore eyesight to those underserved worldwide.

In June of 2017, California eye surgeon Dr. Jeff Rutgard, one of the founders and President of iSight Missions, traveled with his team of volunteers to Tecate, Mexico to restore vision to impoverished blind adults and children using the Epic Portable Microscope purchased with a recent grant from Miraglo Foundation.

According to The World Health Organization, 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide, and 90 percent of visually impaired persons live in developing countries. Dr. Rutgard and his team of iSight volunteers are restoring eyesight and transforming the lives of the under-served in impoverished locations around the world. Read More!

In the words of Miraglo Foundation’s co-founders, “Our work in Holistic Integrative Medicine has taken us to many parts of the world where people are struggling to survive. In 2002 we traveled on a life transforming trip to the Tamil Nadu region of Southern India by invitation to serve in the creation of a small community hospital. We were humbled by the joy we received in participating in this project. We returned home from India with the desire to do more to serve those that are suffering both locally and globally.”

“We have strong backgrounds in health and healing and have gained significant experience in creating the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, California.  We have been able to serve communities by funding programs, providing healthcare, equipment and education. In addition, we have been able to witness the transformation of communities through the creation of jobs, food programs, water sanitation, healthcare and education. Together we founded Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine which is dedicated to prevention, early detection and treatment of disease through the use of global healing traditions.”

“We learned that we can prevent disease through the power of education and lifestyle change. We can heal people by providing heart centered guidance, which supports body, mind and spirit while still providing high tech medical care. Diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, obesity and inflammation are all preventable, if people have proper information to transform their lives. Through innovative research outcomes we are able to validate and assist in providing and disseminating new information locally and globally, especially to under-served communities.”

“This knowledge and guidance empowers individuals to create change in their lives and leads to the transformation of communities – one person at a time. MIRAGLO Foundation was born to deliver this mission.”
